Being extremely annoyed at the sound of someone eating or tapping their legs is an actual disorder. It's called Misophonia.

Misophonia, the "rage" some of us get when listening to certain sounds like people eating or breathing, is a disorder. The world misophonia literally means “hatred of sound” and is a form a decreased sound tolerance.

The term is interchangeable with the term Selective Sound Sensitivity and is targeted at specific sounds that hold negative meaning to the person whether loud or soft. The disorder isn’t entirely understood, but it might originate in the high central nervous system structure.

It is thought to be a result of an abnormally strong connection between the autonomic and limbic systems. People with misophonia tend to be annoyed or even enraged by specific sounds like people biting their nails or tapping their legs. People with it may also be diagnosed with mood disorders. Symptoms usually begin right around puberty.

It is speculated that the disorder is genetic. People use various coping methods. Most people simply leave the area, so that they don’t even have to listen to it. Others use headphones and music to drown out the sound. Some people actually feel the impulse to mimic what they are hearing. In extreme cases, the person distances themselves from socializing all together.

The band Buckcherry issued a press release blaming pirates for leaking their music. After investigation, it was found that Buckcherry leaked it themselves.

The first single from Buckcherry’s 2008 album “Black Butterlfy” called “Too drunk…” was leaked through BitTorrent. The program is a peer-to-peer file sharing protocol used to distribute large amounts of data over the Internet. It is one of the most common file sharing programs there is on the Internet today.

Right after the song was leaked, the band put the blame on Internet pirates in a press release. They lamented on how much they hated things like this happening, because they wanted their fans to receive their music first. Wait, there is more! The site TorrentFreak investigated Buckcherry’s claim.

The IP address that uploaded the song had only uploaded that one song. They used WikiScanner to find that the IP address matched the address of a recent updater of Buckcherry’s Wikipedia page.

They emailed Josh Klemme, the band’s manager and found it to be the same as the Wikipedia page updater. TorrentFreak came to the conclusion that they had leaked their own song for publicity’s sake.

Many Somali pirates used to be fishermen who had their waters overfished and contaminated by foreigners.

Many Somali pirates used to be fishermen who had their waters overfished and contaminated by foreigners.

Ever since the civil war that brought down Somali’s last functional government in 1991, the Somali waters have become the equivalent of a public pool. They are open to fishing fleets from around the world to illegally take the fishermen’s stocks and occasionally use as a dump.

According to a UN report, an estimated $300 million worth of seafood is stolen from the country’s coastline each year. Naturally, when people can’t trust the law anymore, they take matters into their own hands. Impoverished Somalis living by the sea have been forced to defend their waters out of ports such as Eyl, Kismayo, and Haradhere.

All of these ports are considered pirate dens, and all the people just trying to make ends meet are considered deadly, lawless vermin.

According to OKCupid, 80% of people who identify themselves as bisexual on their site are not really bisexual.

According to a site-wide study by Okcupid.com, only 23% of the people who identified themselves as bisexual messaged both genders. According the study, 41% of “bisexuals” sent messages to only men and 36% of “bisexuals” sent messages to only women.

This suggests the bisexuality is a “hedge” for gay people or is by straight people to appear more sexually adventurous.

Here's a few more interesting thing they found:

  • People on average, say they're two inches taller than they really are.
  • People exaggerate their income by 20%
  • The more attractive a profile pic is, the more likely it is to be out of date.

In 2005, McDonalds paid rappers to reference Big Macs in their songs.

In 2005, McDonalds paid rappers to reference Big Macs in their songs.

In an interesting marketing strategy, McDonalds promised to pay rappers every time a song that mentioned Big Macs got air time! Hip hop artists were given the chance to make about $5 every time one of their songs with Big Macs in the lyrics was played in the United States!

This marketing strategy was meant to attract young people and children to McDonalds products. Because of their target audience of children McDonalds fell under a lot of criticism for the strategy.

Fears about childhood obesity was the biggest concern for those who opposed the McDonalds’ idea. While McDonalds is trying to offer healthier options organizations like the US group Campaign for a Commercial Free Childhood were concerned about the possible effects of getting musical icons to promote unhealthy foods.

Many rappers and hip hop artists incorporate brand names into their music without the intention of being paid or advertising for the company. Brands like Courvoisier, Gucci, Dom Perignon, Bentley and Porsche benefited from the incorporation of their products into the lyrics of popular music.
